About the Department: 

“Present is the Key to Past”

           Geography is a multidisciplinary subject of social sciences. It helps provide a wide range knowledge and understanding that is essential for making sense of a world. This subject tries to impart a geographical approach to the students thus making them capable of explaining aspects of the natural and social environment where they live and in answering some fundamental environmental, socio-economical, and political questions. we try to blend both the traditional and modern methodological tools in our classrooms. Thus, it involves the traditional approach of fieldwork, mapping and spatial analysis, complemented by the latest statistical methods, computer cartography, Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems.

          The Department of Geography was established in the year 2010. It was stated with a B.A program course with a sanctioned strength of 20 seats. From the year 2023, Geography will be taught as a major subject (NEP-2020). Currently, there are 40 seats in this subject. The Department of Geography started functioning with dynamic academicians Mr. Manaj Kumar Mahato, Guest Lecturer, who taught at this department for four years and Mr. Khalid Raja Khan, State Aided College Teacher-I, who has been with the department since day one and continues to teach. Mr. Israil Ansary joined the department as a lecturer in 2023 and continues to teach. The department has a well-equipped laboratory. This includes Survey of India Topographic sheets of West Bengal, Jharkhand on 1:50,000 scales and Weather Maps. There are a number of survey equipment like Theodolite, Plane table, Dumpy levels, Prismatic Compasses, Barometer, Hygrometer, Maximum and minimum thermometer, Rotameter, Rocks and Minerals etc.
Vision: Understanding the physical-cultural forms, processes, and structures in different complex environmental systems on the surface of the earth to empower and enrich students with skills in decision-making planning for human welfare. 
Mission: Creating scientific and reasoning attitudes in the minds of young students. Enabling them to understand, analyse and manage the man-environmental relationship and their conservations for better living on the earth’s surface. 
Best Practices: The Department is celebrating important Days related to Geography, Nature, Environment and Important Events as declared by India. The Department is organising an awareness campaigning programme in the campus to keep the Campus Clean and maintain the Environment with a slogan of Go-greenery.
